Ted and I had a chance to walk through the experience of figuring out the right table and chairs for our home last fall. It was great to talk about our kitchen space. When we first moved in our kids were in elementary school and now we are in the next stage of life. This drove our decisions about the table and also about the chairs. So why did we choose our Aubrey chairs?
We Wanted Low Back Chairs
The dominant feature of our kitchen eating area is the windows. There is lots of glass which makes this space so inviting. It really draws the eye outside. We wanted low back chairs that wouldn’t block that line of sight which shortened our list to the Aubrey and the Eaton.
We Wanted a Style That Worked in Multiple Parts of Our House
We really liked both of the chairs. The midcentury modern style of the Eaton pairs well with the Pinette table we have in the kitchen - especially when they are both made out of walnut. So we were initially leaning that way. As we chatted a bit more and looked around our house, we realized that we might want something that blended in with other styles. A couple years ago we added a custom river table to our dining room so we would ideally like to pull in chairs from the kitchen when we need extra seats. We decided that the Aubrey could sit well with our dining table AND with our kitchen table.
The Specifics of Our Chairs
We chose to have our Aubrey chairs made out of walnut as both our kitchen table and our dining table were made with walnut wood. Way back when, Ted worked with a leather furniture manufacturer and so he has a soft spot for top grain leather. That’s why we chose the Midnight leather cushions for the 6 chairs in our dining room. In our kitchen I really wanted fabric cushions and we have mostly adults around the table these days. We chose the Clay fabric because we wanted a medium tone to sit in the bright kitchen space.
They Are Comfortable
On top of all of this, when we sat in the Aubrey chairs, we loved them. They were comfortable and they were chairs we could imagine sitting in and chatting over coffee or a glass of wine after dinner.
