Sometimes custom projects are REALLY custom and this was one of those projects. The owner of a landscaping company reached out to us for a boardroom table for their newly renovated offices. Their dream was to have a slab of local granite inlaid in the center to celebrate local materials.
The Prep
This project captured Ted’s interest. Truly it captured all of our interest. So we got down to work and started chatting. Chatting about the perfect wood for the project. Chatting about the perfect size for the project. Chatting about the base. And, eventually, chatting about the granite.
The wood we chose was maple, book matched, with epoxy poured to fill the gaps. It was a beautiful pair of slabs, and the epoxy highlighted all of their natural character. It was a thick top, and it was a beautiful top. Then it came time for the granite.
The Granite
Thankfully they were close, so we could get the granite into our shop. We knew the dimensions, so a computer cut the hole for the granite. We wanted the hole to be tight, so we had the hole cut a little small. As it turns out, too small. So I spent some time with a router, and then a chisel, and then it fit.
The Table
Once we completed the table, we loaded it up, granite and all, and Ted and Darlene took it on their way. With a little bit of help they unloaded the table and had it set up in the boardroom. It fit into the room as well as the granite fit in the top.
A wonderful addition for a wonderful team. We were so happy to work with them and they were very excited about their new table!
