The first time we were asked to build a walnut ping pong table, we thought the request was pretty crazy - and pretty fun. So of course we said yes! Since then we’ve built SO many ping pong tables.
Our First Ping Pong Table
The first one we built had a solid walnut top with a maple stripe down the middle to create the line. The oil finish highlighted the natural coloring of both woods and created a durable finish. This top sat on a sturdy black steel base.
All Wood Ping Pong Table
The next version of a ping pong table was all wood. It was made of a solid walnut top - again with a maple stripe - on a walnut parsons base. We have also built this kind of ping pong table out of maple.
Two Table Table
One of our customers was looking for a ping pong table that could also be used for games nights. This led to the development of the two piece ping pong table. To date we have built these out of 2 smaller walnut tables and still included the stripe in these tables. The advantage is that they can be used together for playing ping pong or pulled apart for a games night or for making puzzles.
Fancy Legs
Over time our wood ping pong tables have been customized in a variety of ways. The one pictured here featured specially turned legs. This was the table we made for Donna. We'll let her tell her story:
We needed to replace our old and abused, saggy and tilting ping pong table. The internet-search rabbit-hole led us to Loewen Design Studios, and that is where we found our perfect table! Or in our case, tables plural. We chose the split table option since it was going in the basement with several tight turns. We added a fancier leg, to match the numerous antiques in our home. We chose solid walnut with the lighter wood stripe down the middle. The grain of the two tables actually matches up if you put the correct ends together, so the table was cut from one big piece - very nice attention to detail, there! The tables are very high quality - so nice that we can take one (or both) of the tables upstairs and extend our dining table seating for the holidays. It's a bit wider than our dining table, but more is better during family gatherings. Everyone has been impressed by the stunning beauty of this table. It plays a wicked game of ping pong too. Even the sound of the ball bouncing off the solid wood is a joy.
Inlaid Epoxy Border
We also had a customer who upgraded their ping pong table with an epoxy border. In this case we poured white epoxy to create an elegant border on the table.
Ping Pong tables are a great way to bring family and friends together for some fun! And they provide an excellent canvas to show your style. We’d love to chat about what your ping pong table could look like. Reach out to us or book a design call.
