A good hardwood table can be an important part of any home, not only in the function but also the style. A wood table that fits into the space well can help make an entire space feel cohesive and home-y, so it’s important to make sure the details are right. While a lot of things play into this, (the edge, wood, legs, and corner are all important parts too) the color you choose for your wood dining table will have a distinct impact on the feel of your table in your space.
At Loewen Design Studios, we have a variety of color options, some warm and some cool tones. I’d like to talk a bit about the cool colors. Wood is naturally warmer, and so you may be more familiar with wood dining tables with warm finishes, but cool tones have a key place as well.
It’s important that your wood table fits into your space. This means that it’s important to work with some of the tones in your home already, especially some of the longer term tones like the flooring, cabinets, and walls. While it can be very beneficial to have some balance between both warm and cool tones, it’s also important to work with what you have in the space. If you have primarily cool tones it may be worth getting a wooden table that also has cooler tones and balancing it with some “accent” pieces that are warmer. Chairs or a painting can do that well.
Another consideration is the lighting in the space. Natural light can lend itself well to warmer tones, and artificial lighting can lend itself to cooler tones, depending on the type of lighting you have. It’s certainly possible to get warm or cool light from interior lighting these days.
Cooler tones are also good for brightening a space. Of course, the cool tones we offer being Black and Iron are darker, and so won’t do this wonderfully, but likely better than a warm tone of the same darkness. Light bounces well off cool tones, so especially the white finish will brighten a room very nicely.
Overall, the most important thing is that you like the way your wood dining table looks in your home. These are some general guidelines if you are looking for help when choosing your wood table. However, if you already know what you want when it comes to your wood table, then we would be pleased to create it for you. And if you’re unsure, pick up some samples. That way you can make sure you get your wood table right.
